OpenCape Network Map

Construction Status

Construction of the OpenCape Network is underway and on target for completion by the end of 2012.

Throughout the region this year, you’ll see trucks with subcontractor logos and huge rolls of fiber cable being strung on existing utility poles and other rights of way. This summer, we’ll move crews to areas where they won’t disrupt the flow of traffic and visitors to the region.

Last year, our construction preparations could be summed up as, “Measure twice and cut once.” Like building a house, the most important phase is planning. CapeNet and OpenCape worked together to design the best possible core network, secure access to utility poles, canal crossings and critical connection points, negotiate fair purchase prices on materials, and select experienced subcontractors to install the fiber and equipment.
